For most of us, when the odometer on our car goes around for the second time, it’s a sign that the end is near.  Soon, the old steed will give up the ghost and it’ll be time to find a new one (or at least a less old one).  But here are some cars that have truly gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Trusty Steed: 1981 Mercedes 240 D

Lovingly cared for by its owner, Paul Harman of Georgia, this cream-coloured classic passed the one million mile mark in 2008 and is still going strong.  But even the best cars need maintaining. Paul Harman has had to refurbish the engine, replace the timing chains, and, of course, have regular oil changes to go so far in one car.

Reliable Transportation: 1990 Honda Accord

This light blue sedan got to be in a parade in Saco, Maine, sponsored by Honda when it passed the one million mile mark. Owner and master mechanic Joe LoCicero bought it used with 74,000 miles on it, and he and his wife and children put on the other 926,000!  He rebuilt the engine once, but it was the upholstery that wore out the fastest.
