Old Names, New Look

Returning nameplates include the Honda Insight and the Ford Ranger.

The Insight first appeared on the scene in the late 90s but was “deemed too futuristic” for the time. Honda tried again 10 years later, but it couldn’t stand up to Toyota’s Prius, and now has taken a leaf — or a few parts — from the Civic’s book of popular offerings. It remains to be seen if Honda can finally call this one a win.

The Ford Ranger model has been a bit forgotten in the wake of the Raptor, but it will return in 2019 to compete with other light-duty trucks like the Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon twins. Will Ford be able to take advantage of their new focus to revive the Ranger nameplate and give it enough to become a true contender? Or will the small truck find itself outclassed among heavy weights?
