How The 2017 Civic Stacks Up Against the Competition:

The 2017 Honda Civic’s list of competitors is long and includes the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, Ford Focus, Kia Forte, Mazda3, Chevrolet Cruze — the list goes on for a while. Among the competition, the Civic isn’t the cheapest car out there and its styling may be polarizing to some. Honda’s most iconic model is still as fuel-efficient and safe as ever with an overall five-star safety rating from the NHTSA. The available Honda Sensing package makes the Civic a class-leader in safety tech. Sensing bundles a ton of features together and includes: lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist system, road departure mitigation, a collision mitigation braking system, and forward collision warning. Finding all these features on larger and pricier cars can be tough.

When it comes to performance, the Civic Si and Type R are on the lower end of the power spectrum and there’s no all-wheel drive on offer. Despite that, the two performance trims are well-engineered, affordably priced, and come with attractive standard features. The strength of the Honda Civic has always been its ability to offer something for everyone, be it a family looking for a safe and affordable car or a young tuner obsessed with the Fast and Furious films. That mass appeal has only grown in 2017.
