Range Rovers are more than just a regular luxury vehicle – one look at the craftsmanship of the cabin, the list of features, and those heated massaging seats is all you need to convince yourself that maybe there’s something special to this car.

The 2019 Land Rover Range Rover is no exception to the pedigree begun by the first British 4×4 oh so many years ago. To find out if the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover is for you, see how it stacks up below.

Performance Specifications

Land Rover’s 2019 Range Rover is powered by one of three basic engine types. The 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine is capable of 254 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. Supercharged versions of the 3.0-liter come in at 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque and a stroked-out 380 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. Finally, customers can choose between a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 at either 518 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque or 557 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque. This V8 is the same engine powering Jaguar’s F-Type sports coupe.

Each engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that comes equipped with standard all-wheel drive capabilities. Towing capacity on the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover nearly reaches 8,000 pounds.

Entertainment and Safety Features

The 2019 Land Rover Range Rover has not yet been rated by the NHTSA. However, there are a number of safety features built into the 2019 Range Rover, many standard and others affordable. Let’s take a closer look at the many trims available on the 2019 Range Rover.

Base Range Rover models ride on 19-inch wheels and see through LED headlights and daytime running lights. With heated front seats, 3-zone climate control, a rearview camera, panoramic roof, and a Meridian sound system with 13 speakers, this model is hardly what we’d call “basic.” Customers can choose from either the 3.0-liter turbodiesel or supercharged V6.

Choose the HSE model and your 2019 Range Rover will be upgraded to 20-inch wheels, keyless entry, heated front and rear seats, the Drive and Park Package, perforated leather seats, a heated steering wheel, and soft door close. Other driving aids include Clear Exit Monitor, 360-degree Parking Aid, and Rear Traffic Monitor. The same engines that power the base Range Rover model are featured on the HSE trim level.

Supercharged models come equipped with the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine capable of 518 horsepower and ride on 21-inch wheels. Pay a bit more for the Autobiography model and you’ll unlock an active locking rear differential, All Terrain Progress Control (ATPC), heated and cooled massage-capable front seats, a wood and leather steering wheel, 4-zone climate control, executive-class heated and cooled rear seats, and heads-up display (HUD). Driving aids include Terrain Response 2 and a Surround Camera System.

For the most power and the sleekest ride, choose the SVAutobiography Dynamic model, powered by the 557-horsepower V8 engine. Dynamic exterior accents and suspension tuning are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to rich appointments on this model. If heated, cooled, and massaging front seats aren’t enough, choose the “Hot-Stone” massage.

SVAutobiography Dynamic models can be purchased in either a standard or long wheelbase, along with the Supercharged and Autobiography models. The Base and HSE models are only offered in the standard wheelbase. Long wheelbase versions are 7.3 inches longer than the standard.

Fuel Efficiency

Considering the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover weighs in around 5,000 pounds, consumers should think of it more like a half-ton truck than a typical SUV and expect corresponding fuel efficiency numbers. Depending on what type of engine your 2019 Land Rover Range Rover is equipped with, you’ll see anywhere from low teens to low twenties.

Kelley Blue Book reports 3 sets of fuel efficiency numbers for the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover. The 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine ranks in at 22 city and 28 highway EPA-estimated miles per gallon (MPG). Supercharged versions dip down to 17 city and 23 highway MPG. Go for the 5.0-liter V8 and you’re looking at 14 city and 19 highway MPG.

How the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Compares

If you’re considering purchasing a Land Rover Range Rover, chances are brands like Honda, Toyota, Kia, and Nissan aren’t even on your short list.

However, choices in the $80,000 to $200,000 price range number higher than you might think. For example, Mercedes-Benz has a strong lineup of refined and capable SUVs, including the GLA, GLC, GLE, GLS, and G Classes. Bentley’s Bentayga and the Lamborghini Urus near the $200K mark as well. Cadillac’s 2019 Escalade, when purchased at and/or above the Luxury trim, comes in just under $100,000. If you’re looking for an environmentally-friendly option, the 2018 Tesla Model X P100D tops out around $140,000.

Considering the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover in its own right, automotive experts had good things to say. Edmunds experts appreciated that you could actually fit 5 full-grown adults in the back seat. The 2019 Land Rover Range Rover can certainly haul its share of cargo, and Consumer Reports did name it a “true four-wheel-drive SUV.”

Pros

  • Luxury SUV with off-road capabilities
  • Plenty of customizable options
  • Lengthy list of standard features

Cons

  • Low resale value
  • High cost of ownership

Comfort, style, and luxury are, for many, milestones. And the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover certainly offers many a luxurious ride with all the accoutrements anyone could ever want.
