The Nissan Altima is a mid-size sedan that has been produced and sold by Nissan ever since the 1992 model year. The Altima is one of the bestselling mid-size sedans each year thanks to its great reliability, high quality, and signature style.

With the 2019 model year, Nissan looks to continue the Altima’s momentum with a slew of desired features including strong engine performance, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and a comprehensive suite of safety features.

Trim Options

The 2019 Nissan Altima has eight trims for consumers to choose from. All eight of the trims come with the same engine option, which is the base four-cylinder engine that can be upgraded to the V6. The main difference between trims is tech, luxury, and safety features that come with it.

The eight trims are as follows:

  • S: $23,900
  • SR: $25,250
  • SR VC-Turbo: $29,300
  • SV: $28,080
  • SL: $29,990
  • Platinum: $31,930
  • Platinum VC-Turbo: $34,930
  • Edition ONE VC-Turbo: $35,750

Engine Performance and Gas Mileage

With the 2019 model year, the Nissan Altima will have new engine options available with all trim levels. The base Altima will come with a four-cylinder engine that produces 190 horsepower. This provides drivers with quicker acceleration than the 2018 model year and better performance than many other vehicles in the same class. At the highest trim level, you will also receive a turbocharged version of this engine. With this engine, a driver will get a very good fuel efficiency of 39 mpg when on the highway and 28 mpg when driving in the city.

For those that are looking for the most engine performance possible will want to upgrade to the new V6 engine, which produces nearly 250 horsepower. This engine is coupled with the continuously variable automatic transmission that provides drivers with a smooth ride. Even with the more powerful engine, you can expect to get a good fuel efficiency of around 26 mpg on a blended basis.

With both engine options, fuel efficiency will fall a bit when upgraded to all-wheel-drive.

Entertainment and Safety Features

The 2019 Altima comes well equipped with a variety of safety, tech, and luxury features — even at the base trim levels.

For entertainment offerings, the Altima comes standard with an eight-inch touchscreen display that can be used to control the entire entertainment and navigation system. Also included with the entertainment system is the ability to wirelessly connect to your smartphone through either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Additionally, the Altima comes standard with satellite radio, four USB ports, six speakers, and voice recognition.

In addition to the entertainment features, the Altima includes a good number of safety features. Some of the base safety features include a rearview camera, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Additional safety features are available via packages. These include plenty of airbags, anti-lock brakes, and child safety locks. Thanks to all these safety features, the 2019 Nissan Altima has received highly positive ratings from the IIHS.

Those that upgrade to the higher trims will enjoy a nine-speaker Bose Premium stereo system, a built-in navigation system, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and steering wheel, high-beam assist, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and a surround-view mirror.

Overall, the 2019 Nissan Altima is stacked to the brim with high-quality features, which will help it stand out amongst other sedans in its class. It has two strong engine options while still providing good fuel efficiency. Plus, having so many impressive standard safety, luxury, and entertainment features available at the lower trim levels makes it appealing to those looking for an affordable vehicle.
