3. Ford Pinto


This car has become synonymous with poor engineering and horrible mismanagement. Ford was supposed to take the compact car market by storm with the Pinto, but a big oversight sabotaged the Blue Oval’s chances.

Something about a lack of sufficient protection around the fuel tank in the rear and the vehicle becoming a human grille in short order kept buyers away. Apparently, people weren’t too keen on dying for a chance to own the Pinto. In all seriousness, several vehicle owners actually did perish in fires, something that the company could have avoided if it had stepped up and done the right thing from the beginning.
