Ford Galaxie 427 SOHC

You had to know the secret password and handshake to purchase this almost mythical car, which was powered by an engine people lovingly termed “Cammer.” Only a few of the vehicles were built, and technically they were prototypes, hence why you had to have connections to get your hands on one.

It made about 660 horsepower and had a dual-quad intake, but owners claimed on the dyno the engine pumped out well over 700 horsepower. Ford created this engine for NASCAR racing, but rival Chrysler flipped out and whined because it was a beast in comparison to the new 426 Hemi. For whatever set of reasons, officials decided to let Chrysler have its way, banning Ford’s glorious engine from competition.
